Melanie’s Ascent
In January 2026, a team of hikers summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro to honour the memory and spirit of Melanie, who was taken from us by domestic violence. Through Melanie’s Ascent Melanie’s brother, friends and neighbours hope to raise awareness about domestic violence and raise $300,000 to support the creation of a new program, to be administered by FearIsNotLove, that will provide critical safety tools, including home security systems and personal safety devices to women fleeing domestic violence.
We at FearIsNotLove are deeply moved by the group’s courage and commitment to build something meaningful out of tragedy. Through this initiative, not only will the group honour Melanie’s legacy, but they will also create a strong, more connected community.
